Mike Siani has written a nice book at the behind the scenes look into the Raiders of the 1970's. While some information may not surprise you, there are some things that will definitely raise your eyebrows to stop and wonder, how could they get away with that ??From the early years when Al Davis took over, you will learn what it meant to be a Raider and what was expected of you to be part of the group. Late night parties, drinking, sex and just about anything else you could imagine.Covered also are the rivalries with the Steelers, Chiefs, and Broncos. Has nice information on teammates bio's, week by week results for each year during the 70's along with controversial unforgettable games as "The Immaculate Reception", "Sea Of Hands", "Ghost To The Post", and "Holy Roller".Overall a good read on one of the NFL's most notorious teams, whether a fan of the Raiders or not, if you grew up during this era, this is the stuff you never heard about at the time.Would also recommend the following for more good info from the NFL during the 70's when "real football was played by real men".1)Badasses by Peter Richmond2)The Super '70s by Tom Danyluk

This book was poorly edited and it's hard to say it was written, more accurate to say it was "put together." The jacket cover intro is replicated in the book itself--this is just one glaring example of the overall shoddy job done getting this book together. I would not buy another book put out by the same publisher...giving a less-than-passing-grade-in-high-school effort to a hardcover new release is unacceptable, period. It's difficult to believe that this book was not just a schlock job hurried out before the holiday season to take advantage of Raiders fans. The lackluster production of the book takes away from what could have been a real solid book with the sources quoted and interviewed. The "writer" and publisher of this book should read the "Monsters" book that Cohen wrote on the Bears and published by FSG last year, if they read that masterful book they will realize what a poor effort they put in on this one.

This book is a total ripoff!All the “author” did was piece together excerpts from other books about the Raiders. The stuff that IS actually original is horribly written. Poor grammar with lots of factual mistakes.Also they literally copied and pasted the text of the NFL Network “America’s Game” on the 76 Raiders word for word!! Hello, plagiarism?

Some laugh out loud moments.Some boringly poor recaps of games one paragraph at a time.Constant quotes of people talking about other people and you don't know who is talking about who.While I'm glad to have the funny stories, I think the editing of the book and the writing are poor.

A Fantastic Book! I highly recommend this read!

This is old information that any Raider fan from the past would know. The author and co-author Mike Siani don’t reveal anything new! I found it a joke.

Terrible book that could have been good. If you feel the need to read it, get it from the library. Don't waste you money like I did.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I was trying to figure out if it was a good book for non golfers, and that is harder to evaluate. But if you like golf, I think you'll like this book a lot. If you like golf and eastern philosophy, I think you'll love it. There is so much to relate to about the game and so many eye and mind opening lines of thought. I can see why forty five years after its publication it is still popular.

A timeless book every serious golfer should read. Part one is the meat of the book. Part 2 is a bit outside the box but still good.We should all have a bit of Shivas Irons in us.

Very interesting, though often difficult read. I really gained some good thoughts about golf but the numerous metaphysical, religious, philosophical references I simply didn’t know, made it difficult, as I didn’t look each up as I read, as I think you must do to understand this completely. But quite interesting and reflective nonetheless.

Golf is a deeply spiritual game, full of lessons. This book only scratches the surface. Friends kept recommending the book to me, but they don't play golf, so it may have been profound to them that it's not the sport they have prejudged it to be.

The sport of golf gets an examination from the founder of world-famous co-founder of Esalen Institute. Murphy writes an engaging narrative that explores the deeper dimensions of golf. Set at a fictional course in Scotland, Murphy based the book on his personal experiences and interests in the Indian guru, Aurobindo.

OK, so I'm an avid golfer who had never heard of this book. It popped up somewhere and the reviews looked interesting so I bought it expecting some exciting reading about golf and basic philosophy. I really got neither golf nor philosophy.I gave it three stars because it's just that - OK. The first half of the book is good reading with the discovery of the spirit of McDuff living in a cave on an anonymous golf course in Scotland by the author and a Scottish golfing legend named Shivas Irons. Murphy writes in the first person and at times it's easy to lapse into seeing the story as an actual experience, not a novel. Shivas takes Murphy through a hard learning experience during a round of golf the two play (with a third member)that starts off with Murphy being penalized for a shot that in reality, he shouldn't have been. By making Murphy play the round by the strictest of adherence to the rules of golf, he opens his mind to reality. The new revelation takes hold so fast that Murphy plays the back nine under par. Then they spend much time together in the small village and the interaction at dinner with a local family is entertaining, if not enlightening.The second half of the book had me speed-reading through philosophical clap-trap that was laborious and confusing. Aligning philosophy and golf is a stretch that Murphy doesn't quite pull off and for me, was disjointed and in many cases left me wondering what he was trying to communicate. I must say though that I have since tried to develop a relationship with my golf ball as in the book. Unfortunately, the ball often severs the relationship by divorcing me with a trip into a water hazard or stand of trees. So, it wasn't great for me but it was OK. I won't be buying the book he wrote about Shivas because this was plenty and my golf scores haven't dropped.

This book is the essence of the game of golf. It is a must read for all golf afficianados. It proclaims the zen of the game, the honor of the rules, the character of all who play, and an intrspection to self and honor. I state my title for this review, because like BHD, this book chronicles a complex cast of characters who have obviously gotten sucked into a storm the likes had never been seen before. In this one however, a great deal of the storm was in fact of their own making, and many matter were made worse by their refusal to quite believe it. It is literally our modern equivalent to Greek tragedy; where both God's and mortals allow their weakness and vanity to bring down just about everyone involved.I have thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book, and feel a hundred times better educated for it (and I read The Economist every week, so it's not like I don't pay attention to what's going on). I found the daily, sometimes hourly breakdowns not just interesting, but at times exhilarating in the way that so many moving parts could interact. Each player (and there are MANY) has his or her role, sometimes large and small, but they are all closely intertwined in a complex ecosystem that in turn has huge ripple effects to every part of our world. There are scenes that truly have to be read to be believed, and all through out I kept thinking that if anyone could actually boil this all down it could make a terrific movie.Perhaps my only wish is that some charts and timelines had been provided along with the "Cast of Characters" included in the beginning of the book. It took me quite a while to get a handle on just who everyone was, and often it's not easy to figure out what each company is actually in the business of. In some ways, that's part of the point of it all- it's all a little too complicated to keep in check. Which is not to say efforts should be made to do so.At times, hilarious, and others infuriating, this is THE book to read to educate yourself not just about the financial crisis, but about what happening today on Wall Street too.

“Too Big to Fail” is an altogether excellent book by financial journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin. It’s a compelling narrative that tells the story of how the nation’s largest and most prestigious financial institutions came to the brink of collapse – and almost took the entire economy with them – in the great economic crisis of 2008.According to Sorkin, the financial downturn that occurred in the summer of 2008 was actually years in the making. Many of the nation’s greatest investment banks, along with their commercial bank counterparts, had been busily dealing in high-risk subprime mortgages for years. As long as demand for housing remained high, so did housing prices; however, when massive numbers of people began defaulting on mortgages they could no longer afford, the housing market suddenly crashed, credit froze up, and banks began to fail……Thus begins the story of America’s economic meltdown in the late summer and early autumn of 2008. With the collapse of the housing markets, many of America’s oldest and greatest investment banks – among them Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, and Morgan Stanley – also find themselves threatened by total failure. So do commercial banks like Citigroup, Wachovia, and Bank of America; insurance companies like AIG; and the two government sponsored mortgage guarantors (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac). Now, U.S. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, New York Federal Reserve Bank President Timothy Geithner, Congress, and other government regulators must find a way to save these financial institutions from ruin. If they don’t, America faces the very real possibility that its entire economic system may collapse…I read “Too Big to Fail” not long after watching the HBO movie upon which it’s based. I was actually very impressed by how well written this book is. Andrew Ross Sorkin is a highly knowledgeable financial journalist who is also a very gifted storyteller. He writes with prose that is both clear and concise. He makes highly complex financial matters easy to understand by explaining them with a minimum of technical jargon. His portraits of the key players in the drama – Hank Paulson, Tim Geithner, Dick Fuld, Chris Flowers, and Erin Callan, among others – are unbiased, allowing readers to form their own judgments about them. Best of all, Sorkin avoids making “Too Big to Fail” a political treatise, focusing instead on the efforts of government officials and Wall Street executives to bring the nation back from the precipice of financial disaster.“Too Big to Fail” is actually quite a page-turner. Sorkin tells his story in a crisp, fast-paced narrative style that’s never boring. Overall, I found it a very enjoyable and informative reading experience. Highly recommended.

This book provides a fly-on-the-wall narration of the shocking and momentous events on Wall Street in 2008, especially the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, and the at times inconsistent reactions by government agencies including the Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve, the SEC, and the FDIC. Andrew Ross Sorkin has collected reams of information about what went on in the boardrooms of numerous corporations and he recounts copious phone calls, meetings, and interrupted vacations to provide a fascinating, at times gossipy, at times wonky look at this unprecedented time in the economic life of the republic. If there is short shrift given to some of the detail behind, say, the commercial real estate loan portfolio of Lehman Brothers or, say, the Financial Products of AIG, he more than makes up for it with detailed transcripts of meetings and phone calls which show just how unprepared Wall Street executives and government officials were to deal with a crisis the size and scope of which were as mystifyingly arcane as the contents of those synthetic collateralized debt obligations. You might not come away from this book understanding why things blew up, but you will definitely know when, where, and how they did.

I purchased this book in hardcover, and it was Too Big To Hold. Then purchased it in kindle form and nearly found it Too Big To Read. Actually, I read it cover to cover, and it is a very extensive and detailed account of the events. Minute by minute coverage. It was difficult to keep all the players and what firms they were with in mind. To my delight, the players themselves had the same problem with who's who and from where. A real Cecil B. de Mille epic extravaganza with a cast of thousands. It paints Hank Paulson as savior of the world, the ironic Second Coming of a Wall Street broker turned patriot. The movie did not and could not do justice to the book.

Dennis R. Okerstrom is Professor of English at Park University, a certified flight instructor, and the author of four previous books including The Final Mission of Bottoms Up: A World War II Pilot’s Story and Project 9: The Birth of the Air Commandos in World War II (both with University of Missouri Press). He owns and flies a restored 1942 Army scout plane and is the recipient of numerous awards for scholarship and teaching. He lives in Independence, Missouri.

As spokesman for the surviving Raiders, he would voice the sentiment of his fellow Raiders that hero wasn’t in their vocabulary; they were just doing their jobs, and they did them well. Admiral William F. “Bull” Halsey, one of America’s great fighting admirals, called the Doolittle Tokyo Raid “one of the most courageous deeds in military history.”Dennis Okerstrom’s book, Dick Cole’s War, shows that the Doolittle Raid was only the beginning of many dangerous missions flown by Cole during World War II. Most people only knew of his famous first combat mission, but he was placed in harm’s way many times after the Raid.Cole flew more than 250 combat missions during World War II. Dick Cole is a shining example of “The Greatest Generation “. This book is a wonderful insight into his life and gives a complete story of his service in World War Two. His story is inspirational in showing his dedication, and courage in very challenging, and dangerous situations. I really enjoyed this book. God bless you Dick, and thank you for your service.

This book is a quick, enjoyable read. What a bunch of heroes these guys were! There is a lot of material that covers the almost constant moving from air base to air base, but the most enjoyable parts are the carrier launch, the challenging navigation at 50 feet above the sea, the bombing and the nighttime bail-out from the bomb bay doors over China. Aviators will enjoy the C-47 airplane icing and aviation challenges in flying the "hump".

Oh my, what a wonderful read. Anyone interested in flying or is a pilot needs to dive into this great mans life of service to his country. A real HERO!The book is well written and gives a clear picture of each phase of Dick Cole's life. The last chapters of it, give an outstanding description of the Air Commando's roll in Burma during WWII....

Fellow aviators should have this as required reading.I was proud to meet Dick Cole at our Wings Over Houston in October, 2016 and for 101 years old, he looks much younger. Glad he is a fellow Texas living in the Texas Hill Country NW of San Antonio. Well written history of a part of the War that is rarely talked about. I'm very interested in WWII, and had three family members in that War. But I was not fully aware of the China-Burma-India theatre other than the Flying Tigers. A good tale.

This book changed my life. Honestly. After many years of suffering and therapy, I finally realized (by reading this book) that I might have ADHD. I was not your typical ADHD case - I am not hyperactive, and I managed to be a good student with a LOT of work. But when I read this book a lot of things began to make sense... After some months, I finally decided to seek professional help and now I'm in a much better place in my life - I have energy and motivation throughout the day; I can actually focus on my work for an hour straight (before, sometimes even 10 minutes seemed impossible!); my mind is much more in the present and thus calmer and less prone to depression. Sometimes I think that learning about ADHD was a miracle in my life. My therapist is so impressed that I'm now only having very sparse 'maintenance appointments'. So thank you, Sari Solden!

I've read almost every book out there on ADD to gain a better understanding of what not only I exist with but how to better cope. This book was by far the best! It should me a mandatory read for all women with ADD. The best part is that it's organized in a way that you can easily skim, pick and choose what you're interested in reading when without having to go in a logical chronological chapter order. Sari Solden hit this one out of the park and has been a god send in helping me both understand and accept that there's absolutely nothing wrong with ADD, it's just a different brain than the majority of the public. I've learned to use my ADD to my advantage despite still struggling in other areas (everyone has struggles, so what, mine are JUST different) and in gaining a better appreciation for that, I wouldn't trade my ADD brain in for a nonADD brain ever.

This book and all the crying I did reading it were instrumental in my healing from the damage of a late diagnosis.Straightforward, informative, and understanding, without wrapping female ADHD up in the flowery and quirky language we tend to see. You've got a problem, Sari Solden understands it intimately, and she's going to explain to you what's going on and help give you some of the tools to cope. From the relevant point-of-view of an adult woman, free from the misconceptions and stereotypes that virtually always accompany ADHD. This book is time well spent.

This book spoke directly to my soul. I found out I had ADHD at 28 years old, and my psychiatrist recommended this book among some others. Sari Solden is the only way to go, in my opinion, if you are a woman with ADD/ADHD. The other books I read were also helpful to an extent, but Solden really speaks to the way ADD can manifest itself differently in women than in men. Every single word I heard was like she was reading my own mind and heart down to every last detail. It was spooky. Made me cry at certain parts, and made feel relieved I'm not alone at others. I felt like I understood myself and the issues I've faced my whole life 1000% better after reading this.

Warning, this book will make your think deeply about processes and situations in your adult ADD life that may have baffled you, like they did me. I experienced a real grief process but also many AHA moments. Challenging to trace the ADD issues into all their manifestations. Enlightening and it offers hope and solutions (No quick fixes, no gimmicks) This is a book to cover not just household and project help, but insight into relationships and challenges as well. Money very well spent.

I had known for a long time that I have ADHD, but never received proper treatment. Even after all the research I had done on my own, this book helped me to understand parts of me I could never figure out. This book also provides effective, non medicinal strategies and techniques for managing my ADHD. Also, I should mention that because of my ADHD I am not a reader. I bought the audio book and would listen to it in my car on my way to work. I had to re-listen to it a few times because of my tendency to "zone out", but I absolutely recommend the audio book over reading the book to anyone who struggles with reading like I do.
