This is the first reference I open when preparing a sermon or Bible study. I have the entire series on Kindle which is very convenient. The one suggestion I would have is that the covers be designed so that they are easier to identify on the Kindle screen. All twelve volumes look alike, so it is difficult to find the one I'm looking for. If the "A" "B" or "C" could be on the cover along with the dates it includes, it would be very helpful. For this reason, I am giving the series four stars instead of five.That said, once I've located the text, there are four commentaries for each of the four lectionary texts. All are well written and insightful. It would be nice if there was a brief bio about the authors, just to better understand their theological foundation a bit better.
Love these commentaries and kindle version shows well. Only problem is that the Year A,B,C and Volume number are near impossible to read on the cover view which makes finding which one you need quite the annoying task.
I regularly glean some great insights from the entire series of books. That is not to say that you will agree with every contributor, but at least you have four perspectives​ from which to read. highly recommended.
The benefit is it covers all the scriptures for that Sunday. I found the Theological section to be the most helpful with sermon ideas. The only negative I have stems around incorporating cultural ideologies to the scriptures. At times it did not stay neutral on certain forums. Even with this negative I was able to navigate through it and develop sermon ideas.
Pastors who look for good resources for sermon preparation must have this series on their bookshelf. A variety of authors and insights make this series thought provoking and insightful. I find the Kindle edition easier to use than the book.
Being a deacon I don't get to preach all that much so when I do it takes extra effort and research. The "Feasting on the Word" series has saved me many times because of the broad range of examples they have for each reading. Worth their weight in gold!
This series has sustained me through many difficult sermon subjects as well as brought freshness to time worn scripture, offering new perspectives. It is a growth producing book with enough information to be fresh for many years to come.
I use Feasting on the Word every week in preparation for my preaching. I get four different perspectives on every Lectionary passage throughout the year. It is an excellent resource and I highly recommend it. You get commentary in the areas of Theology, Exegesis, Pastoral Care, and Preaching suggestions. The resource includes a wide variety of commentators; however most are from liberal leaning seminaries and denominations. Not a conservative approach to the scriptures.
