This was a marvelously entertaining read! Admittedly, I did feel a bit distant from the youthful characters, with all of their overindulging in alcohol. My days of that sort of behavior are long gone! But, I so enjoyed the premise of the book, and, like my favorite parts of other novels, the tasks of setting up a house and hiring staff, Kaitlyn's well-placed anger at her all-for-the-money mother at not showing Magnus anything about how modern technology works (Oh, I SO felt her frustration!), the discovery of the new as experienced by Magnus and HIS mother - all thoroughly pulled me in, and left me wanting more! It's also been fascinating to know that the locations are real, and many can be seen online.I do tend to read a lot in the Hot Scot/Time Travel genre, and I must say it's refreshing to meet Magnus: tall, good looking, strong, and a fierce warrior, but so amazingly humble, quiet - so NOT full of himself! His relationship with Kaitlyn is sweet and innocent, and all the more special for it. I have read the next two books in the series, and am waiting for number four!Another thing is - the writing itself is strong, compared to many other novels in this genre. The author has a good grasp of grammar, and believably-styled conversations. Definitely a thumbs up!
I’m nearing 60 years in age and read literally everything — fiction, non fiction, short stories and on up to an occasion mega novel. Because my life has become extremely busy, I especially love a quick read. KAITLYN AND THE HIGHLANDER is definitely a fun, quick read, easy to latch onto the story from the very first chapter. I appreciated using the free book offer from Kindle Unlimited but found I liked the storyline so much that I wanted to continue with the series and soon purchased all 4 books, currently available. No tedious and time exhausting details, just pure fun with romance, mystery and humor. Yes, there are violent and uncomfortable situations but not unlike what you’d find in the 18th century. (Um, half of the story does take place in the 18th century, after all.)All 4 books read within 10 days, each one delivering an ongoing yet completely new adventure and an ever maturing Kaitlyn and her Magnus.Heck, I haven’t had this much fun with a book series since my time spent with a waitress from Bon Temps!
I was in my twenties, a long, long, long time ago. I walked the beaches Kaitlyn walks, a gazed up at the rich people's houses and wished I could go inside one someday. I don't know anyone growing up in my tiny beach town that didn't, at some point, have some variation of being swept the F out of that town by someone hot AND/OR getting in a time machine and just going... away. This story isn't my usual style for reading. The characters sucked me in, though, and three books later I'm kind of like "wait a minute, but I need to know what's happening next!". I love the plain language, and like the relatable characters and I like that the author has woven in some of the realism that is part of being in the same space with another human being. The concept of the series now appeals to me a lot, and I'm anxiously awaiting the next release.
I was VERY skeptical about this book because I’ve loved Outlander for 15 years. I thought it was a rip off and ignored it when it popped into my recommendations. I’m so glad I have it a chance! This series has me hooked! It’s not a rip off and has its own story. I read all 3 books in a week. I’m anxiously waiting for book 4. I highly recommend!!!
Admittedly, by the second chapter, I was ready to leave this book alone. However, it gets better after that! Kaitlyn is an annoying twenty-something, but she quickly matures. And Magnus is, well... a dreamy Scot. Don’t let the negative reviews give you pause. Definitely read this if you’re a fan of Outlander!
While the main character was young and had a lot to learn, I enjoyed watching her grow in this book and the sequel. Magnus is an awesome hero, with a delightful sense of humor. I enjoyed watching them learn about marriage and the sacrifices and commitment that it requires. The book also addresses friendship and loyalty. The time travel for this book had a different spin by bringing the hero forward.. The alien aspect of the technology was also unique. I can't wait for the third book in the series!!
First, romance is most definitely NOT my genre. I just don't gravitate toward anything in the romance realm, time travel and Scotsmen or not. Several of my friends, however, had just read and loved "Kaitlyn and the Highlander" and suggested that I give it a read. With weather so hot that I've had to invent fresh new metaphors to describe it, most of my brain has melted and I can't really focus on heavy plot lines. Plus the last book I read just depressed and overwhelmed me. I needed to follow up with something breezy and fun, just pure escapism."Kaitlyn and the Highlander" is charming, sweet fun and did exactly what I needed it to do: provide a pleasant escape from my own meh life. I loved that the hottie Scottie needed Kaitlyn, making her a stronger character and not just a pretty face being wooed and rescued. And is anything sexier than a hot Highlander with real vulnerabilities? Overall, Kaitlyn is a quick and easy read that doesn't demand too much from the reader and offers much entertainment in return. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.Yes, if you're looking for a hard-hitting literary tome or a book that plumbs the depths of the human condition, you're not going to want this book. If, on the other hand, you just want a quick, easy read that makes you laugh and takes you out of your life for a bit plus a sexy guy in a kilt, then this book delivers.
I could not put this book down! It was a really great read and I look forward to learning more of Kaitlyn and Magnus’s journey. It does have that Outlander vibe, but Kaitlyn and Magnus have their own beautiful story and I just couldn’t resist falling in love with it! I stumbled across this book from a Facebook add and I almost scrolled past it. So glad I gave this series a chance! You won’t be disappointed.
