This title is surprisingly good - well plotted, full of interesting concepts, and with a lot of wonderful mystery. I had worried it would be too much in the horror category - kids getting eaten by 'demons' wasn't ever going to be my cup of tea. I also had concerns that it would be an endless set of chapters of different escape attempts. But instead, they did get out of the orphanage in decent time and there are plenty of goals and mystery to be solved ahead.Story: They kids are out of the 'farm' - but alone in a strange and very hostile world. All they have are the clues left by Artemis - and a location to get to for what they hope will be sanctuary. But the demons are closing in and two unexpected allies appear - but are they truly friendly?I do like the characters here a lot. Each has their own personality and quirks, strengths and weaknesses. They are kids you want to follow as you discover all that had been kept from them as they grew up in the farm/orphanage. With this volume, we get a LOT of answers about the world and how it came to be. But there are still quite a few to solve.I will definitely be following this story. It's more of a thriller than a horror, which I appreciate. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
