Having played for years, I can see that a player must be careful when using the rule. Judgement is most important and a combination of losing trick count helps. Hoeweve, I had heard a lot about this theory and thought I should know about it. Perhaps my game is better in competitive situations than before. But I am careful about blinly using this concept as a rule.

In this book, Larry Cohen patiently explains the Law of Total Tricks and advocates for its use. Book's a little long for what we get.
Good book. This was written decades ago but still is applicable.
The LAW gets a lot of flack in modern bidding theory. It's not perfect, and it does require judgement, but it's a SIMPLE, yet powerful tool to improve bidding in competition. I can't think of a single book that will improve an intermediate players game more quickly.
