This book has saved me hundreds of hours in generating a complete light aircraft preliminary design. It can be read cover to cover, and while the concepts can be quite difficult to grasp, the topics are covered by the author thoroughly and without unneeded complexity. An engineer of any discipline can work through this with enough time invested. The examples are invaluable and can help the dedicated individual create a spreadsheet of design parameters, information, and plots with dependencies before moving on towards detailed design. This book will continue to be a reference for me. If you are at all interested in the preliminary design process or a clean sheet design for an aircraft (specifically homebuilt or 14 CFR Part 23) look no further.Note: There are a few computational, grammatical, and spelling errors. Ask the author for the errata and he will provide it!

Only 25 pages in but so far, this book has been a pleasure to read! I thought it would be a dry engineering book and held off reading it for a few weeks, but every sentence is written clearly and concisely. I'm at the project management section (first section), and so far everything written in the book seems to be valuable advice that I wished I would have known before starting some of my other projects. Highly recommend! It looks like a good balance between advice and pure technical knowledge

This is a fantastic compilation of current information on pretty much all aspects of light aircraft design - including cost modeling and the Eastlake cost model - both very hard to find in conventional sources for airplane design. I may write another review after more time with the text, but it looks thorough, with numerous examples. review qualification: I am a 15+ year professional aircraft design engineerOne complaint: After some debate, I bought the hard copy because I like physical books, but found out too late that they printed only in black and white! The online version has very nice colour illustrations.

This book is awesome. I bought this after I graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering. Definitely worth having if you work on GA aircraft, or if you're just interested in the area.

I'll start with the cons. I assume this is true for every engineering book in kindle format. The pictures are difficult to see on my laptop. There's no way zoom into a picture with a laptop and a lot of important information are displayed on pictures.Pros: I am currently using this for senior design and it is very helpful. This book has more information on wingtips and winglets than Raymer, Roskam, Schuafele, and Nicolai. (With the versions I used at least). It also a section on different tail configurations such as V-tail, Y-tail and other interesting ones. I wish I used this book during the beginning of the school year. I highly recommend this for air design.

The books seem to be well organized but for me the price was steep and was way to advanced for me math formula after math formula seem to have me falling further down a rabbit hole that I couldn’t grasp

I've only scratched the surface of this book but so far it's very comprehensive. Note: print version doesn't have color pictures, graphs, or data.

Hoffman even points out how the local media covered it and why they covered it the way they did.Hoffman does his own homework too. He performs extensive research, dusting off records and archives. It's done with a professional standpoint giving you the impression that Hoffman may have given us the most complete account of a mystery that may never be solved.You need a strong heart to take this journey with Hoffman. But it's well worth re-reading it to make sure you haven't missed anything in the little details. It's what makes Hoffman good at his craft.

Growing up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin (a Milwaukee suburb,) author Paul Hoffman heard about the 1925 death of Buddy Schumacher from an elderly neighbor who had known the boy. In fact, Hoffman's parents had bought the family home from Schumacher's parents.It's no wonder, then, that as an adult he would bring his professional journalist's eye to the decades-old unsolved case of the boy who was abducted and murdered on a trip to the local swimming hole. Speaking with family members and digging through records both dusty and digital, Hoffman weaves together the sensationalist headlines of the day, all the gritty details, and a broader historical perspective to assemble a more complete accounting of the facts than was known by most of the contemporaries.You won't learn "whodunnit" in these pages, but you'll wish Hoffman had been there to interview the players at the time - or at least to review the evidence before many of the records were destroyed.It is both an absorbing tale of a human tragedy, and a microcosmic history of a region and period. It's a quick read, and hard to put down - I highly recommend it.

This well-written, well-researched true crime story has been a fascinating read. I particularly like that it advocates awareness for problems that still exist today, child abuse/rape/murder and the tragic circumstances of the mentally ill. These issues need to be continually addressed in our society

Having grown up in Tosa and graduating from Wauwatosa East High high school, I had to read this book! It was a sad story but well told. I felt oddly at home as I read this tragedy. Having grown up just one block from Hillcrest, I was unaware of the tragedy. Good story which brought home many memories from my youth. Thanks to the author for bringing it to light.

I thought the book was very well written. I could tell he did a lot of research in order to reach some of the conclusions he had. At times I wish some chapters were longer but that was a personal opinion. The average person might have thought everything was sufficient. The research of doing 1925 material and finding such facts of his friends at age 8 and 9, interviewing persons that were still living and telling us facts of this murder. Great job.

This is a book about a 1920s murder by a former reporter for the Milwaukee Sentinel where I once toiled as a journalist. Mr. Hoffman has a story better told in a shorter format but extends it considerably and somewhat tiresomely. He is not a particularly fluent writer or gifted story teller. Yet he does provide the backdrop of that period in Wawatosa, Wisconsin (where I lived for a time) and Milwaukee.

I enjoyed reading this book as it is a true account of a missing boy from my childhood town in 1925. Sad story that includes local media and police reports from that time period.

Love this book. Grew up a block away from the house.

This was a fast read and well worth the time. Luke Gromen outlines in a clear and concise way a plausible path to resolve the sovereign debt crisis that is fast upon us. If you are not very familiar with the ‘Free gold’ concept, this is required reading.

If you are looking for a potential roadmap for the fiscal future of The US, this is the book to read. Luke, through the interview process with fictional Mr. X, lays the groundwork as to how the US has gotten to its present fiscal state and the potential outcomes of our choices. Quick read with charts and links to source interviews and quotes (kindle version).

The Global Monetary System Reset will begin in 10...9...8..7... , well, it doesn't really work that way. The Reset is a process, not an event. A large part of what has taken me years to figure out has been made accessible by Luke Gromen in this book. I like the Q&A format, its like listening in on a conversation instead of a lecture. I'm very much looking forward to future volumes.

It was quite a experience read this book. Very consistent and coherent... the kind of ideas that we need to a better understandment.

My nine year old is all about YA graphic novels right now and Camp did not disappoint. She ripped through the book in the span of a couple of days, staying up at night with her reading light to get ahead. When I asked her, she said the book was good but not great. She enjoyed the story arc, but was disappointed that it did not embrace multiple perspectives in the traditional graphic novel style. Evidently the book is written entirely from the perspective of Willow but not Olive. My daughter was hungry for more story and point of view from other characters and in that aspect, the book fell short.

My 12 yo loves comic style books.She found this interesting and finished it in one sitting.Her friend is reading it as well and like it.

John Matusiak's "James I: Scotland's King of England" provides a thorough overview of the life and reign of James Stuart. The major issues that arose in James' life are all covered, even the threat upon his life prior to birth by an alleged attempt to have his mother, Mary Queen of Scots, miscarry. The book is, structurally, well written and reads quickly, though it is somewhat of a dull book to read. Given the numerous instances of double-dealing and and intriguing plots (e.g., gunpowder plot) that arose during James I's rule, one would have thought the author would have written about these in a more plot-setting tone rather than a "here's what basically happened folks" perspective.I was also a bit turned off by Matusiak's constant use of adjectives and adverbs throughout the book that seemed to purposely paint a picture of an event, place, or person as he alone perceived it. Well written histories tell a good story, present the pertinent facts to set context, and then assess the whole with multiple perspectives and plausible interpretations. After reading "James I," I came away believing that Matusiak is anti-Catholic and perceives Mary Queen of Scots as a weak woman and a dolt. The is due to the book being written as a glossy overview of James I's life; it never digs deep enough into any particular event to fully grasp the full context of an issue or event that he monarch had to deal with.

I've always been curious about what happened after Elizabeth I and after consuming all that was available on Wikipedia, I wanted to embark on a more in-depth Stuart reading journey. After much research, I decided that James I by Matusiak was probably the best starting point and I couldn't have made a better choice. Insightful, informative, and detailed, Matusiak has a flare for bringing the historical events to life with a frank and witty tone which makes the book a pleasure to read.I've since shared with my family who are now also embarking on a Stuart reading journey themselves as a result. Highly recommend for an informative and engaging biography of a fascinating person and period of transition.

A detailed examination of the actions and character of the first of the Stuarts. Enough historical setting to make the context of his actions clear. England was at peace when he began his reign, and at peace when it ended. This makes it clear why.

In Paul and His Team: What the Early Church Can Teach Us About Leadership and Influence, he brings his pastoral and academic experiences into fruitful dialogue about what the apostle Paul teaches concerning influencing others for the sake of the gospel.“Many leadership books address the mechanics of leadership and primarily focus on what and how questions,” Lokkesmoe writes. “This book will be more concerned with who and why questions. Who are we as influencers, and why do we lead the way we do?”Among the leadership traits of Paul and his team that stand out most are these: (1) “Their singular focus was Christ.” (2) “They treated others as equals.” (3) “They were agents of reconciliation.”Paul and His Team is a good reminder that “our leadership within the church should always have that distinctive tone and posture when compared to any other leadership context.”

When he established churches he gave the tools needed, he followed up, provided guidance, and dealt with some very difficult situations (the situation in Corinth comes to mind). In his new book Paul and His Team: What the Early Church Can Teach Us About Leadership and Influence, author Ryan Lokkesome evaluates the leadership of the Apostle Paul and helps us apply it to out lives today.This is not a scholarly textbook, but is written for the average person in the pew. The author breaks down the lessons that Paul provided then in easy to understand terms. Not only that, but he provides real world guidance on how to apply the skills that Paul taught. In describing Paul’s leadership ability the author writes, “We will see qualities like humility, self-sacrifice, and radical grace at work. This stands in stark contrast to much of the leadership culture today, which often has a strident, boastful tone to it-even in Christian circles” (page 19).Overall this book is a good one on leadership and gives some decent insights. This book is about leadership, and as a senior pastor Ryan Lokkesmoe knows about that. It's also a book about Paul, and with a doctorate in New Testament he can certainly speak to that as well. Combining the two has always posed a difficulty. How do you speak about leadership from a biblical perspective without transposing your own, modern ideas back onto the text. Lokkesmoe handles that perfectly. He starts with a text, analyzing what Paul did and what made his approach unique (such as his search for common ground in synagogues of the Athenian Areopagus) and then asks "How can we apply this today?" Of course there are limitations given culture and context (and Lokkesmoe doesn't spend enough time confronting those limitations, in my opinion), but taking lessons from a successful leader from any historical era has always been beneficial. There are certain timeless (and timely!) principles of leadership, and this book helps shine a spotlight on them.

Whether in ministry, nonprofit, business, etc., "Paul And His Team" is a great title for anyone interested in team building for accomplishing organizational objectives AND building people up in the process. Many times it seems objectives become so much the priority that people end up being things to be used instead of people to be developed. Around 200 pages, the book addresses many topics, some of which include:1. The kingdom of God usually contradicts worldly success.2. Various ways we can learn how Paul established common ground with others so he could share the gospel with them.3. I’m back to working full time, so bring on the book reviews!As intrepid readers will recall, I was less than thrilled with the previous book by the author (The Woman with a Worm in Her Head: And Other True Stories of Infectious Disease), but this time, I was pleasantly surprised how much more I enjoyed this book.Bitten explores the various critters that bite and the consequences of such bites. Only once does Dr Nagami inject herself and, unlike the previous book I read, I wish she had given more personal insights since she’s an infectious disease specialist.This book was an easy read, and again, the digital version was great. I give this book four stars out of five. Well worth reading if biting critters is your interest.

Very interesting book for someone like me who teaches nursing and medical students. This came recommended by Goodreads and some other sites, and since I've read Nagami's writings before and enjoyed them, I felt this was a good book to get. As soon as I started reading it, I started thinking of all the people who shouldn't read it because they are too squeamish (including my daughters!) and people like my husband, who should read it, because they are either Scouts or on Search and Rescue teams, or work in the woods all the time. There were many parts I actually read aloud to my husband because they were so interesting, and even though my husband is very well-versed in bites especially from snakes and bugs, he still had not heard some of the information available in this book.I don't think people realize how dangerous even bites from both domestic animals and people can be. Nagami made sure she covered these two areas well in her book, and I highly recommend reading them or discussing them especially for nurses who are going to see them in the ER or pediatrics.Nagami did a lot of research for this book, using some of her own cases, but also getting interesting cases from around the world. For example, she discussed cases of jelly fish stings from various places around the world including Australia...makes you scared to go in the water! She also covered all the new problems we are seeing with mosquito bites in the U.S. such as West Nile Fever, which is getting worse by the year due to global warming and how it impacts animals as well as humans.A few topics were slower than others which is to be expected in a book like this, but on the whole a good read and reference for this topic. But again, if you are squeamish at all or a hypochondriac...don't pick this book up!

This book started out very strongly, with chapters on spiders and snakes. I read these sections with horrified amazement. I will echo what another reader said: Do not read the first few chapters in this book in bed. My legs were itching ten minutes in.The book covers a lot of creatures that can bite or sting you - spiders, snakes, dogs, cats, monkeys, jellyfish, snails, ticks, microscopic water-dwelling parasites, alligators, etc. There's a lot of info. The sections on the spiders and snakes were the most interesting to me, perhaps because I didn't know much about the effects of spider and snake venom. The reactions to spiders and snakes are often very acute as well, which made for a more frightening read.As the book progressed into other bites, like crocodile, cat, and dog bites, I felt that it was a little bit more rushed than the earlier sections, and somewhat drier. It still contained interesting information, but it wasn't as interesting or as in-depth as some of the earlier sections. Nonetheless, I think this is a four-star book due to the sheer volume of info. Overall, I recommend.

Dr. Nanami's first book is one of my favorite medical puzzle books of all time, was excited to read another. Like all books of this type, it invokes fascination, horror, and "hell no, I'm never leaving my bed again!" responses, though since so many dangerous bites occur in bed, that doesn't even feel like a safe space to read this book. Now I know why every spider that anyone thinks may have been looking at someone funny is automatically a brown recluse (people's obsession with them confused me when I first moved to a state in their coverage). And once again, a strong desire to stay away from Australia. And I'm very, very thankful that I tolerate penicillin-type antibiotics well.

Critters that crawl around in the dark - or the light, as the case may be - are both horrifying and fascinating. Other reviews have mentioned enough of the topic that I won't repeat that here. The book was another of author Nagami's great inform-the-public books about the things we live with every day. If you like Bitten, then you will like The Woman With a Worm in Her Head, which had some even scarier stories. I love Nagami's books and I love finding out about our world. My only complaint with her books is that within each story, she tends to jump around a bit. She usually starts out with a scare story and then often leaves you hanging while she explains the medicine behind the story, and then finally finishes up with more stories that are similar and a grand finale in telling you the outcome of the original story. While it sounds fine here, it tends to make following the mini-stories a bit difficult. Having said that, both her books are a fascinating subject and well worth the cost of a few nights time to read.

Told with the distance of a spectator that is not intimately acquainted with the subjects. Could have been so much better. Hard to wade through even though the subject is interesting.

I read this years ago when I first started high school and I was so excited to find an e-copy of it. Well worth the money, this book has great stories paired with information that really just makes you want to read more and learn more. All the while you can read about these fascinating stories that make you feel bad for the people involved but medically they're so interesting!

Had to read this for a healthcare class in college. It had some interesting and creepy stories but the writing was boring and tedious. Definitely wouldn't read it again.
